NC DHHS Divison of Information Resource Management is seeking a CoolGen Programmer to provide production support for maintenance and enhancements to various departmental and divisional systems in a mainframe environment. (Short term approx. 12 mnths) Some of these systems include the Central Registry Fatalities, Common Name Data Services, Enterprise Program Integrity Control System and other application systems assigned. This position is expected to work with a diverse set of clients and provide strong overall system support over a series of complex systems.
The ideal candidate must have experience in the programming of application systems and a thorough understanding of the software development life cycle, including business requirements definition, review of functional specifications, development of test plans, testing, user training, and deployment; experience installing, configuring, monitoring, maintaining and developing applications in a mainframe environment; extensive expertise in Problem Analysis and Issue Resolution.
Required:
* Knowledge of structured programming techniques and various software to include DB2, COOL:Gen/CA:GEN, Report Composer, Java, Object Oriented Design, Web Services standards (SOAP and WSDL), VisualGen, COBOL, IBM Websphere/EGL, and Working knowledge of sql
* Experience with structured system development methodologies, data transfer and interface methodologies between mainframes and mainframe to servers and distributed server environments in a statewide environment
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and strong organizational and time management skills
* Ability to produce technical procedures and documentation for applications including maintenance and operations, disaster recovery plans, user guides, and training materials;
* Ability to translate and communicate highly technical concepts to both technical personnel and non-IT business users
* Ability to develop relationships/partnerships with customer by responding to needs and exhibiting a sense of urgency, independently identify options, develop solutions and take action when responding to customer needs
* Minimum 3-5 years of full life-cycle development experience for applications using CA:GEN 6.5 and above and experience with Report Composer
Preferred:
* Experience with Cobol, CICS, IMS, VSAM, Zeke, XPTR, and CA Tools and utilities;
* Knowledge and experience with State Government systems;
* Knowledge of TELON, .net, HTML, CSS,; and Database platforms and tools (MS SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2); and Reporting platforms (Crystal Reports and MS SQL Server Reporting).
* Web development experience and migrating from COOL:Gen and VA GEN to Websphere is a plus
Other:
Graduation from a 4 yr college or university and 5 yrs of experience in business applications consulting or development. Experience in the field of work related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
