Provide administrative support for the LMS-Registrar application and

its components

This individual plans and executes detail plans for LASR, upgrades the application, provides Oracle Financials Application functional and administrative support and works with other project managers of critical projects to make sure interfaces within LASR are current.

The current LASR application is developing and implementing several major initiatives that must be tracked to ensure successful implementation.  This includes Regional Accounting, Dual County office setup and interfaces to the Bridges Application.  The application is undergoing consolidation of the accounting units within DHS. Counties are being merged together for cost savings to the state which affects the setup and implementation of the daily tasks of the local offices within LASR. There are two efforts in place, one of which is a Regional Accounting approach which is the merging of several accounting units within the counties in the both the Upper and lower Peninsula of Michigan.  The other is an ongoing effort on Dual County setups within the state.  In addition to these tasks, upgrades to the current Oracle Financial Application need to be completed along with the customization of the forms and reports within LASR.

This application interacts with different applications within the agency and outside of it. Information on Vendors is extracted from MAIN for verification.  Address information for clients will need to be extracted from the Bridges Application.  Information is also passed to Bridges for Income Tax Offset recoupment, and the application allows automatic FTP’s to various requesters of accounting information.  Several customized reports are extracted from this system to provide data and reimbursement activity tracking for both the legislature and the state treasury which disperses funds to the local offices.  There is an upgrade to the next highest level patch set of Oracle Financials 12i and the upgrade to Oracle 11g client.

This position will be responsible for project status reporting, issue tracking, risk assessment, and communications between DHS and DTMB so that successful projects are implemented.  This contractor will also be responsible for ensuring that these applications/interfaces are operational in a Michigan/1 (M/1) environment.

DHS provides other services within the Office of Professional Development for the staff within the division.  These applications include Performance Architect, a system that provides staff interaction with management on performance competencies and is used for an interface into other systems.  Another system that requires support is the LMS-Registrar which provides the capability of registering staff for various professional development classes and maintaining the class schedules within the agency.  Online Registration provides the capability for staff to request specific training and the Performance Management Course which provides support and training to management staff for managing staff performance.

The Specialist III will assist DCJS technical support staff with the lifecycle of firmware upgrades on the SAN/ Storage infrastructure consisting of IBM DS8300, XIV, SVC, DS4700, DS4300, Brocade 2109 M48 Directors, SAN32B-3 Switches, and Brocade 300 Switches.  It is also expected that the Specialist III will assist with SAN/ Storage hardware upgrades and migrations, as well as performance monitoring/tuning and problem determination and resolution.

Yearly firmware / software upgrades on storage devices (DS8300, DS4700, DS4300/SVC, XIV, Shark):
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage DS4700 Firmware Upgrades.
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage DS4300 / SVC Firmware Upgrades.
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage Storage Manager for DS4000 Storage.
Install / Manage DS8300 Client.
Install / Manage XIV Client.
Yearly firmware / software upgrades on Fiber Network (SAN):
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage firmware on Primary SAN (2109 / 2005-B5K).
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage firmware on BackUp SAN (B300).
Support / Manage Direct Connect Fiber (DS4700 Connections).
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage software management tool (DCFM).

Occasional Projects:
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage new hardware implementation.
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage hardware upgrades.
Research / Analysis / Spec / Implement / Verify / Document and Manage hardware migrations.
Manage SAN / Storage infrastructure documentation.
Catastrophe intervention / resolution such as datacenter power outages, production outages, etc.
Assist IBM / Brocade with research / data collections.

When necessary the candidate will assist DCJS technical support staff with the daily tasks of monitoring and supporting the SAN/Storage infrastructure. Daily tasks on storage devices (DS8300, DS4700, DS4300 / SVC, XIV, Shark):
Allocate/Deallocate LUNs
Create/Manage LUNs/Pools/Arrays/Disk Groups
Create/Manage Host Connects
Create/Manage Volume Groups/Clusters
Monitor/Address stability of Storage Devices
Assist Server Administrators/DBAs with integration/management of storage

Daily tasks on Fiber network (SAN):
Implement/Manage Fiber Connections
Install/Manage Fiber cables
Create/Manage zones
Monitor/Address stability of Fiber Network
Assist Server Administrators/DBAs with Fiber connectivity/management

The SAN/Storage infrastructure supports mission-critical Integrated Justice and legacy eJustice applications running on IBM P-Series, Sun Solaris, Linux, Windows and WMWARE servers.  DCJS serves ~500 TB of storage to ~300 hosts.  No storage based copy services are utilized.  DCJS is currently in the process of decommissioning the Shark and DS4300/SVC environments.  DCJS has two Storage Area Networks and several archive environments that are direct connects.  One SAN is local the other spans two remote datacenters in the Albany area.  The four member team that manages the SAN / Storage infrastructure is also responsible for a five Cluster VMware infrastructure.

Periodic travel between sites in the Albany area may be required.  In addition, due to the critical nature of these services, the Specialist III will be required to assist DCJS technical staff in 24x7 on-call coverage for production problem resolution.
