GIS Developer with FOSS Web GIS, Minnesota Mapserver (MS4W), Mapfish, OpenLayers, Geonetwork Spatial Metadata, ESRI Web GIS, ArcIMS, ArcGIS, PHP, VB.Net, XML, WMS, WFS, SLD and CSW experience

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENER) is seeking a short term (approx 6 month) contractor. The selected candidate will consolidate/virtualize existing GIS web applications on different servers and platforms to an enterprise leve, virtual GIS applicaton server environment. No programming of new web mapping applications will be involved. The virtual environment will be VMWare 4.5 andthe FOSS and ESRI GIS software will be installed in separate VM''s.

 

Duties will include:

. Installation, configuration and tuning of the required GIS software.

. Create/test interoperable raster catalogs using scriptable tools such as GDAL.

. Create/test interoperable "tile caches" and OGC WMTS services using GeoWebCache.

. Create/modify Mapserver "map" files, Geoserver service files, ArcIMS "axl" files or ArcGIS Server MXD files to work in the new environment.

. Create/manage metadata in FGDC format; loading it into the GeoNetwork Metadata Catalog respository.

. Migrate GIS web apps to the new enviroment. Requires ability to debug Javascript, PHP, and/or VB.net web client app code.

 

Expected Outcome:

. Fully functional set of dev/test virtual servers and a physical production server for both FOSS and ESRI GIS application software.

. Working/tested plan for promoting updated versions of the web apps from the test virtual server to the physical production server.

. Documented set of server and app software installation and configuration details.

. Documentation identifying all GIS data required by each web GIS application with details of any particular field requirements.

. Complete, loaded metadata catalog identifying all GIS layers on the DENR system.

. Exiting web map apps migrated from legacy server to the new enviroments; must pass testing by application owners.

. Working/tested failover plan for switching the web GIS app to run on the virtual test environment if production fails and will be down for more than one day.

 

Required:

. Minimum of two (2 ) years of intermediate or advanced level experience with the spatial database software packages . Intermediate or higher skill level and experience working with required software packages.

. Ability to solve technical problems independently yet work as part of a team . Exhibits strong attention to detail.

. Strong communication abilities both oral and written . Ability to write clear, understandable technical documentation.

 

Candidate must have knowledge/experience in:

FOSS Web GIS Software:

. Minnesota Mapserver (MS4W) with embedded Apache webserver and packaged client viewer extensions.

. Geoserver with integrated GeoWebCache and extensions on Tomcat Servlet Engine.

. Mapfish and OpenLayers web clients, integtration of Mapfish with Apache via mod_wsgi, app of security layer using Apache mod_cas.

. Geonetwork Spatial Metadata catalog on the Tomcat Servlet Engine configured to work with geoserver for map/data preview display.

ESRI Web GIS Software:

. ArcIMS 9.3.1 integrated with Tomcat Servlet Engine and IIS webserver.

. ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 integrated with IIS webserver.

Language Support:

. PHP

. Javascript

. Some VB.Net

. XML

 

Preferred:

. Knowledge of OpenGeoSpatial Consortium GML and protocols such as WMS, WFS, SLD and CSW
