Description:

The University of N.C at Charlotte (UNCC) is seeking to fill a (short term approx. 6 month) contractor assignment. This position will serve in a Senior Systems Engineer's role and ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Senior Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

 

Responsibilities Include:

. Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.

. Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

. Design and perform server and security audits.

. Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.

. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to active directory configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.

. Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.

. Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.

. Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.

. Provide orientation and training to end-users for all modified and new systems.

. This systems group of engineers design builds and support the Windows based systems that are part of the Production environment.

Responsibilities

Include: Infrastructure design, Active Directory implementation, system builds, performance monitoring & tuning, application & server high availability.

 

Required:

. Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer science or software engineering and/or 5 years equivalent work experience . Min. of five (5) years experience in designing, managing and implementing large scale servers in a production datacenter environment . Architected and engineered an Active Directory environment.

. Solid understanding of Active Directory management . MCSE . Extensive application support experience with Active Directory & Exchange.

. Extensive history with automation & development of scripts (Batch, WSH/VBScript, WMI, ADSI, and SQL DTS, perl).

. Working knowledge of network & Microsoft operating systems.

. Working technical knowledge of current software protocols and Internet standards.

. Project management skills.

. Excellent command of English language

. Excellent interpersonal communication skills both written and oral.

. Highly self motivated and directed

. Keen attention to detail.

. Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.

. Strong customer service orientation

.

Demonstrated, Proven Experience in & with the following areas:

. Overseeing the design, development, and implementation of Active Directory design/architecture, installation and migration.

. Architecture, implementation and support of Microsoft enterprise systems.

. Systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.

. Core software and middleware applications integration.

. Managing, Monitoring and deployment of Windows based systems comprising Production environment . Infrastructure design, Active Directory implementation, Group Policy, system builds, performance monitoring . Windows 2003/2008 migrations and mergers with Novell 6.5 . Enterprise AD forest with multiple domains . Group policy and OU administration . Working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

 

Ability To:

. Conduct research into systems issues and products as required.

. Communicate ideas in technical and user-friendly language.

. Use scripts, command line tools & other migration tools

 

Preferred:

. MS Certified

. Expert knowledge of Windows 2000/2003/2008 AD & Server . Experience with other LDAP environments (NDS eDirectory) . Infrastructure Mgmt . Knowledge of Quest Products
