IN001150 - Desktop Engineeer with Windows registry, Novell, Windows Active Directory, networking, ITIL procedures, performance, Windows XP/ Office, and help desk experience

Description:

The University of N.C. at Charlotte (UNCC) is seeking to fill a (short term approx. 6 month) contractor assignment. This position is primarily to provide 2nd level support of Microsoft Windows operating system for the campus computing environment.

Including:

. Diagnosing operating system

. Application software

. Networking related, and/or hardware system issues.

. Following established ITIL Change, Problem and Work Order Management procedures . Following all ITS published procedures, standards and guidelines . Working with other staff members to plan installation of new hardware and software

 

The selected candidate will work with management and the ITS project management team to develop schedules, identify resources, and determine milestones and will be expected to make recommendations to management for improvements. Other responsibilities, task and expectations

include:

. Monitor operating system performance to identify potential performance bottlenecks . Modify operating system parameters to improve performance . Use of vendor provided knowledge base or FAQs to assist in the resolution of complex problems . Use of existing Problem Management procedures to identify reoccurring problems taking appropriate action to resolve . Support installation and problem management with university licensed Microsoft Windows . Utilize existing Help Desk management system to record problems and solutions . Use Help Desk software as a research tool to identify trends . Utilize previous experience to develop solutions for problem management . Communicate technical jargon in written and oral form . Promote a positive, helpful attitude when working with users . Follow current Change Management procedures to implement fully tested technology solutions enhancing organizational success . Develop documents, and implement solutions based on ITS guidelines for customers.

. Consult with other areas as needed to assist with issues, problem resolution or requests for information . Updated on current market and industry trends (utilizing appropriate vendor on site meetings, web searches, roadmaps, periodicals, etc.)

 

REQUIRED

. Associate Degree in computer Science, Information Technology (IT) or related discipline and minimum of five (5) years experience in IT field related to the area of assignment OR . Bachelor's degree with minimum of (3) three years experience in IT field related to the area of assignment OR . Equivalent combination of training and experience

Note: All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

 

Candidate Must Have the Following Additional Requirements:

. Mastery skills of the Microsoft Windows registry . Working knowledge of client configurations for Novell and Windows Active Directory network operating systems . Ability to build a Microsoft Windows XP workstation from scratch and configure it with network connectivity . Working knowledge of the various Microsoft Office productivity suites, installation and problem management.

. Understanding of network communication protocols . Ability to communicate technical jargon in written and oral form . Excellent command of the English language . Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
