Description:
The Department of Transportation is seeking a short term (approx. 12 month assignment) contractor to proved Lan/Wan Support Services. The selected candidates’ primary purpose will be to install and troubleshoot NCDOT LAN cabling infrastructure.
Responsibilities will include:
• Physical installation and testing of LAN cabling and infrastructure, lightweight construction and installation and basic troubleshooting of LAN equipment.
• Interacting with employees at all levels in all DOH, DMV, and other DOT offices across the State as needed to support network solutions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
REQUIRED:
Advanced experience with physical LAN cabling (copper and fiber) installation, termination and testing
Ability to manage tasks and meet schedules
Excellent organizational and English communication skills both written and oral
Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
Willingness to work overtime as needed
Willingness to accommodate regular regional travel, and occasional overnight travel.
PREFERRED:
Experience with Avaya (Nortel) LAN switching products.
Prior experience with NCDOT Network Field Services.
State does not reimburse for commuting expenses or relocation expenses for anyone. Parking/travel expenses to/from main site & within Raleigh area to be in hourly rate.
• Reimbursements for expenses for work at sites outside of main site in accordance with NCDOT travel policy.
Important Note:
The candidate MUST:
• Be available for travel to any DOT location across the State on a daily basis and for occasional overnight travel.
• Possess the physical ability and have the willingness to lift and move equipment weighing at least 25 pounds.
