The client  is seeking to fill a short term (approx. 12 month) contractor assignment to assist the User Services Group (USG) to address agency workload for desktop and laptop PC deployments, software upgrades, and software conversions, and to provide extended hours support to the Remote Services Center (RSC) of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division. 

The selected candidate will be required to supplement USG permanent staff in the following areas of responsibility:
Agency software initiative to upgrade all staff desktops and laptops to Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010. This includes installation and configuration for 2,550 staff PCs, 850 public use PCs, and 800 laptops
Conversion of the agency mail client from Thunderbird to Microsoft Outlook for users in 89 local and branch offices throughout North Carolina
Replacement of several hundred desktop and laptop computers
Statewide initiative to implement McAfee Endpoint Security product line (encryption, anti-virus, and malware), requiring removal of the current anti-virus product and installation of McAfee products.
Statewide initiative to remove Novell’s Netware Directory Services on 2,550 staff and 800 laptop PCs including Raleigh central office staff of DES and DWS and users in 89 local and branch offices throughout North Carolina.
Support for Help Desk problem tickets, which exceeded 17,000 in 2011
Communications with end user clients will be performed in a courteous and professional manner

Technologies employed by DES include:
Microsoft Windows XP SP3 desktop operating system with Novell Client 4.90 SP2. Microsoft Windows 7 is being introduced to the agency during the period of this contract work order and Novell Client 4.90 will be removed from DES systems
Trend Micro Office Scan anti-virus software. A statewide contract for anti-virus software has been awarded. The award will require DES to begin conversion to the McAfee Endpoint Security product line (encryption, anti-virus, and malware)
Microsoft Outlook 2010 client will be required to support the Exchange Mail service provided by ITS to DES. This will require conversion from another mail client currently in use

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
Minimum of three (3) years experience supporting Microsoft Windows XP operating systems
Minimum of one (1) year experience with the Windows 7 operating system
Minimum of two (2) years experience installing and troubleshooting McAfee (Safeboot) encryption
Demonstrate a strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP protocols as applied to desktop client systems.
Strong consulting skills necessitated by the need to collaborate with DES employees in the assigned work unit as well as network specialists, and Windows based applications administrators in other units
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
