Network Engineer (NCNE/CCNA) with LAN/WAN administration, TCP/IP, SNMP, DNS, and IEEE 802 standards experience
Location: North Charleston, SC
Duration: 6 Months
Primary Functions:
• Manage planning and operations for data, wireless, and voice communications to meet needs and mission of the district.
• Develop and manage successful completion of large concurrent projects for system and equipment deployment on schedule and within budget.
• Manage highly skilled technical staff, including hiring, supervision, training, evaluation, and disciplinary actions when necessary.
• Review hardware and software acquisitions and maintenance contracts and manage contract implementation with vendors.
• Analyze the performance of network and telecommunications systems; determine operating costs and productivity levels; make recommendation for improvements to data networks and telecommunications systems.
• Implement policies, procedures and standards for technology resource administration, appropriate use, disaster recovery, and security.
• Implement industry best practices in data and voice communications networks to ensure maximum system available and user satisfaction.
• Develop, track, and manage the network operations annual budgets for purchasing, staffing, and operations.
Secondary Functions:
• Maintain technical proficiency through professional development training, and education to keep pace with evolving technologies.
• Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.
• Serve on intra- and inter- divisional committees.
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Telecommunications, Business or related field
Experience & Training:
6 years experience in network and/or telecommunications field
5 years experience in supervisory position including personnel management
Specific Skills:
Experience in network and telecommunications system design and analysis.
Successful experience as LAN/WAN administrator of a large enterprise.
Experience in procurement of computer network and telecommunications equipment and software.
Licensing/Certification:
Novell Certified NetWare Engineer, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent Microsoft certification preferred
Other:
• Proven experience in network infrastructure strategic planning and development, project management, and policy development.
• Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and PC operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, SNMP, DNS, and IEEE 802 standards.
• Knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations.
• Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Highly self motivated and directed.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Additional Skills: Must have broad knowledge of multiple server and network technologies.
