Desktop Support Engineer with Windows Server/XP, Mac, networking/RAID and academic/school experience

Location : Lynnwood, WA
Duration: 11 months
SCOPE OF WORK: 
The Career and Technical Education Department is looking to contract Technical Support and Networking for computer labs in four high schools and four middle school locations.  This includes approximately 900 individual computers networked in 15 (16 station) PC laptop labs 20 (31 station) PC desktop labs and 3 (20 station) MAC labs, and 3 servers.   This contract requires approximately 900 hours of direct support annually.
 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Work Experience and Certification: 
- Minimum 5 years in troubleshooting computer labs, preferably in an educational setting. 
- Must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment with teachers and students. 
- Current industry certification in networking and/or computer support preferred. 
Relevant work experience and skills may be used in lieu of certification. 
 
Server Experience, Knowledge, and Skills: 
- Windows 2003 and 2008 Server (Intel/PC)
- RAID configuration
- Network/domain environments
- In depth knowledge of network topologies and protocols 

Desktop Experience, Knowledge, and Skills: 
- Windows XP & 7 Professional client machines
- MAC OS 10.4 – 10.7 client machines
- Knowledge in assessing hardware/software requirements
- Ability to solve minor problems over the phone 

SERVICE AND RESPONSE TIME EXPECTATIONS: 
- Labs up and running 95% of class time:  Monday-Friday, 7:00 am – 2:30 pm.
- Tech begins to resolve emergency, lab down, situation within 2 hours of contact; schedules other troubleshooting within 1 day; software loading and imaging by appointment. 
- Initiate and respond to communication with district Tech Support and CTE staff as necessary to complete typical work within response time expectations; attend meetings as scheduled; keep advised of district technology policy and procedures. 
 
TYPICAL WORK: 
- Install, upgrade, and test desktop or server OS, hardware, software and peripherals
- Provide for de-installation and relocation of existing equipment
- Document work in progress and provide accurate records for move/add/change requests
- Diagnose and resolve desktop, server and network problems using recognized procedures
- Prioritize work based on service and response time expectations
- Provide expert recommendation for acquisitions of software and hardware
- Monitor system/software performance
