Summary:
As the size and complexity of the Database Administration environments have grown into mission critical systems, the support needs for the products have grown in breadth and depth. The intent of this work order is to supplement the DOR Support and Maintenance functions focusing on Database Administration support. Under general supervision, the contractor will serve as a Database Administor reporting directly to the Database Administration area of South Carolina DOR. One main focus of this position is to supplement the current DBA Service Level Agreement in accordance with the needs of the Agency’s application projects, migrations and related database environments. These applications involve SQL Server technologies components. Support contractor must demonstrate an expert knowledge of SQL Server Database Administration and Windows Operating Systems. General duties include installation and management of SQL Server 2005 and 2008 database servers on Windows Operating Systems 2003 and 2008, DTS and SSIS knowledge, Security Management and Reporting Services Administration effectively researching and providing guidance leading to solutions with our strategic direction initiatives, monitoring SQL Server environments, assisting in supporting High Avaliabilty disaster recover/failover 
scenarios such as Failover Clustering and Database Mirroring. Database Administrator will be a team member who ensures the stability, integrity and security of server, 
data and server services through monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all servers and infrastructure systems. This individual has 24/7 on-call 
responsibilities shared with the group.The following areas of DOR also need assistance in support, but these are not a requirement to apply for this position. Experience in these areas would be a plus: Reporting Services / SharePoint Integration, EMC SANs, IBM and IDMS environments.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Non Technical
-Effectively interact and communicate with peer to Director-level IT professionals. 
-Provide feedback to team regarding product issues, enhancements and new features.

-Prioritize numerous issues of varying severity, and effectively manage the resolution of all issues within accepted service levels. This includes ownership of the data entered into the Helpdesk system and appropriately updating both client and appropriate employees of status of all issues on a timely basis. 
-Good customer skills, be attentive to detail, and responsive to customer tickets.

Technical
-Troubleshoot and recommend technical solutions for customer issues related to database configuration and performance. 
-Develop workaround solutions as appropriate. 
-Monitor and assess current database systems and recommend hardware and software enhancements 
-Act as technical resource for other IT analysts and business units by resolving complex database systems problems 
-Escalate complex problems to other groups, Help Desk, or vendors for resolution or for support under maintenance agreements; oversee vendor work 
-Install, configure, test, monitor, and maintain Database Server systems; install and configure application databases in collaboration with Network Administrrations 

and Application Support groups 
-Perform Operating System and Database System upgrades and updates
-Lead and execute small projects 
-Maintain familiarity with current DBMS and OS products 
-Adhere to corporate information security guidelines and promote information security among coworkers 
-Qualified candidate will be responsible for performing root cause analysis/resolution. 
-Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
-At least 5 years experience in Database Administration
-Expert on SQL Server Technologies, especially 2005 and 2008
-Experience with Windows Server 2003 and 2008
-Experience with High Avalibility clusters (Failover / Mirroring)
-Experience in performance monitoring for SQL Server / Windows environments
-Experience with VMware
-Hands-on technical knowledge of DBMS Technolgies and server operating systems
-Experience in developing and maintaining documentation for policies, procedures, and best practices.
-Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills a must.
-Able to conduct research into infrastructure issues and products as required.
-Leading effective team meetings 
-Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
-Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
-Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
-Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
-Strong customer service orientation.
-Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
