Description:
The Department of Transportation (DOT) is currently seeking a short term Technical Writer contractor (estimated 960-1040 hours) for the TraCS 10 Upgrade Project.
The Technical Writer is needed to update or create client application Online Help, Installation and Conversion Instructions, Agency Administrative and User Guides, and Training materials.
The Technical Writer will:
1)Work with the IT Development Team and the DMV Traffic Records User Support staff in the update and creation of the TraCS10 support and training documentation.
2)Participate in meetings with the IT Development Team and the DMV Business Owners for the development and update of the documentation.
3)Create Administrative and User Guides accessible via NCDMV website(s).
4)Publish all the designated documents according to guidelines using approved tools for publication of documents.
5)Adhere to the policies and procedures established.
Required:
•A minimum of five (5) years of technical writing experience.
•A minimum of three (3) years of technical writing experience for large-scale information technology applications or projects.
•Experience managing the documentation process for information technology projects that include online application help, user guides and technical administrative manuals, and preparing application training material.
•Knowledge of technical writing principles practices and tools, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), drawing/graphic tools (e.g. VISIO), publishing tools (Microsoft Publisher), RoboHelp, and web services (e.g., Internet Explorer).
•Graduation from a four-year college or university.
•Experience in using the online help tool, RoboHelp.
Preferred:
•Strong Technical writing and editing skills, with ability to absorb business information quickly from a variety of sources.
•Experience working with a wide range of management, technical staff, and user groups.
•Varied experience with other technical products used to develop and manage technical documents, including HTML, Adobe Reader or other PDF reader/creation tools, and online help product(s).
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
