Description:
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is seeking to fill a short term (approx. 4 month) assignment to provide Computer Programming Services to assist with coding an interactive race care game using 3D immersive technology that is being developed. Objective of game is to help students understand the components of the formative assessment process and how to take ownership for their learning and should be tailored to middle school students (boys and girls) with an underlying goal for all K-12 students in North Carolina to benefit from, relate to, and access the module from their own environment. Projected goal is for game to be available for piloting in March 2012 with statewide roll-out in June 2012 with the potential to impact approx. 1.5 million students. NCDPI, in collaboration with NC State University, has created a draft script and storyboard for use with the project. 

Responsibilities & Duties:
•Assisting with current development and delivery of online educational learning game
•Coding interactive race care game using 3D immersive technology according to NCDPI’s written specifications.
•Collaborate with NCDPI and the NC State University representatives to finalize script and storybook
•Enhancement of the script and storybook to increase interactivity and to best utilize 3D immersive technology
•Assist with ensuring storybook is vetted with user groups and key stakeholders prior to a prototype of the game being created. 
•Assist with preparation of prototype for final approval by NCDPI and with the development of a final version of the game
•Work with NCDPI preparing and implementation of a game pilot (goal – March 2012)
•Testing of functionality and usability of game. 
•Make all NCDPI approved changes prior to statewide roll-out and within time frame determined by NCDPI.
 
Required:
•Strong physics, math and 3D geometry skills
•BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent game experience (Professional experience with C++ programming language can substitute for Education, or other object oriented language such as JAVA)
•Ability to work independently and to be self-directing
•Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

Preferred:
•Experience using OpenGL, DirectX
