Description:

The NC Department of Transportation Project Management Office is seeking a Web Content Writer contractor for its NCDOT Website Redesign and Restructuring project. The selected candidate will collaborate with the technical team to write and edit content for the new website. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

•Write, copyedit and proofread web content including repurposed content and original writing.

•Review and edit content as it is contributed to the website from other sources.

•Write content in a variety of formats and convey proper writing tone and style for multiple audiences.

•Write appropriate content based on client’s industry.

•Employ an effective writing style that is fresh, consistent and customer friendly.

•Write web page titles, meta tag descriptions, alt tags for images longdesc for images, frames and iframes tags etc; write content of noframes tags.

•Edit print documents for publication online.

•Insert keywords and hyperlinks in appropriate places in copy.

•Ensure editorial content is written and presented in a format that meets web usability standards and is consistent with company information design guidelines and brand image.

•Maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties.

•Evaluate web sites for strategy, readability, legibility, find ability, usability, interactivity and credibility.

•Help develop and document procedures to manage Web content.

•Work cooperatively with team members, clients and vendors to accomplish project goals.

•Perform any other duties essential to web development as directed.

•Strict adherence to deadlines.
 
Required:

•Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or Internet Writing or a related field.

•Minimum of two (2) years of experience with proven web writing, editing and proofreading skills.

•Excellent editing, spelling and grammar.

•Ability to iterate quickly urding the writing process.

•Proficiency in Word and Excel.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred:

•Understanding of HTML/XML.

•Understanding of basic user experience design.

•Knowledge of web usability standards and practices.

•Experience with Web marketing.

•Familiarity with search engine optimization writing techniques.

•Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple assignments and tasks while meeting deadlines.
