Description:
Assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems (including wireless) of moderate complexity. Participates in network planning, network architecture design and engineering. Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations. Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution and assists in the development and documentation of technical standards and interface applications. Monitors protocol compatibility, performs system tuning and makes recommendations for improvement
Responsibilities & Duties:
. Participate in planning, designing, installing and configuring network and telecommunications systems for the University’s data and telephone networks. 30%
. Diagnose and resolve network problems and ensure network environments are secure and appropriate recovery and redundancy issues are addressed. 20%
. Develop concise network technical procedures and documentation, and provide guidance and training to other network team members. 15%
. Monitor performance of networks to identify potential problems and bottlenecks. 10%
. Consult with other IT areas to maximize the effectiveness of network technology. 10%
. Provide on-call or after hours support for the University’s networks. 10%
. Perform all other network related duties as assigned. 5%
Required:
This position will focus on network and telephony projects and will be the primary engineer for the design and deployment of all voice-related systems throughout the organization.
. Experience in the design, development, modification and maintenance of network systems, including VoIP telecommunications systems.
. Knowledge in multi-protocol internetworks, including LAN, WAN, MPLS, wireless, TCP/IP, routing, switching and QoS.
. Proven expertise integrating, configuring and supporting all the components that make up an IP telephony system including the infrastructure, call processing systems, and the client interface components.
. Experience preferred with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Unity, UCCx, SIP, H323, E-911, voice gateways, wireless distributed antenna systems, Asterisk or other open-source IP telephony technologies
Prefered:
. Knowledge of network system software and hardware.
. Ability to identify and resolve problems.
. Knowledge of methods for determining equipment configurations.
. Ability to work as a collaborative member of a dynamic technical team.
. Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and skills.
