This project will involve a Senior Oracle Database Administrator, well versed in database migrations, both in version upgrades, and operating system migrations.

Complete Description: 
The selected candidate will work with the Chief in DEP’s Database Administrator Section to develop a plan to migrate the current Sun Solaris Oracle 10g Database configurations, housed at the Commonwealth's Data Powerhouse environment, to Oracle version 11g on a new VMWare/Oracle Enterprise Linux Environment, also at the Data Powerhouse. 

The candidate will act as the lead technical resource and actor in performing the steps needed to upgrade and migrate the above mentioned environments. The candidate will also act as mentor to Junior Database Administrators in providing tasks and instruction to those Junior Database Administrators relating to the migration process. 

A secondary part of this project, in addition to the migration and upgrade of the existing DPH 10g databases, the candidate will be creating, configuring, and mentoring Junior Database Administrators in the task of creating and setting up management and backup scripts of standby databases of select development and production databases in a Microsoft Windows environment. 

Estimate of project timeframe is 6 months to migrate 3 Solaris environments to 3 VMWare environments and the setup and configuration of backup and standby environments in the Micrsooft Windows environments. 

Required skills: 

1. Ideally, performed a database upgrade / migration from Oracle RDBMS 10g Enterprise Edition running on Sun Solaris to Oracle version 11g Enterprise Edition running on Oracle Enterprise Linux. Minimally, the candidate must have experience migrating Oracle databases from Sun Solaris to either Oracle Enterprise Linux or Red-Hat Linux. Candidate must also have experience upgrading Oracle version 10g Enterprise Edition to version 11g Enterprise Edition. 

2. Candidate must have experience administering an Oracle database (version 11g Enterprise Edition) on an Oracle Enterprise Linux or RedHat Linux environment. Experience must include setup and testing of backup and recovery procedures utilizing the Oracle RMAN utility. 

3. Candidate must have experience with Unix Shell scripting variants (Korn Shell, Bourne Shell, and C-Shell). 

4. Candidate must mentor junior level Database Administrators in the process and tasks related to migrating and upgrading database environments from Solaris to Linux. 

5. Candidate must have experience with Oracle Advanced Replication as this technology is used within the environments to be migrated. 

6. Candidate must have experience with the performance monitoring and job creation and execution capabilities of Oracle Grid Control. Candidate must also have experience installing 11g Oracle Grid Control Management Agents for Linux. 

7. Candidate must have experience with Oracle Data Guard concepts and capabilities and creation and management of standby databases using Oracle Grid Control. 

8. Candidate should have experience installing and configuring Oracle 11g Gateway for Microsoft SQL Server.
