The Employment Security Commission (ESC) is seeking to fill a short term (approx. 12 month), contractor assignment to provide mainframe support for ESC Unemployment Insurance claims processing and administration. In a time of extremely high unemployment in North Carolina, ESC is experiencing an increase in workload on the Mainframe Support and Change Control staff. This increase necessitates an additional technician be recruited.
Currently, ESC has two (2) System Administrators to manage the use of all mainframe software for the agency including change control support functions to the application programming staff. ESC uses web-enabled server applications to transmit data with the mainframe middleware (communication) packages. The two employees provide base coverage during the hours of 8 AM – 6 PM (Monday through Friday) and 8 AM – 4 PM Sunday. ESC’s System Administrators are on-call 7 days per week.
The contractor will be primarily responsible for change control. Effective change control requires a separation of duties with applications and systems programmers. The selected candidate will collaborate with ESC’s System Administrators and assist the Portal/ Special Projects Team with middleware services.
Critical systems that will be supported include:
•State of NC mainframe systems: z/OS, IBM utilities, JCL and COBOL.
•CICS, Portal coverage on the weekend.
•Endevor configuration management, ZEKE job scheduling and forms management software like System Ware.
Knowledge Of:
•IBM MQ Series.
•CICS System management.
•VSAM, IMS and/or DB2 principles.
Required:
•Minimum of two (2) years experience with Endevor software management.
•Minimum of two (2) years experience with ZEKE scheduling software.
Preferred:
•Minimum of two (2) years experience with report management software, such as System Ware.
•Minimum of two (2 years experience with mainframe software packages; IMS, CICS and MQS.
