The Employment Security Commission (ESC) is seeking to fill a short term (approx. 12 month) contractor assignment to support the computational platform which hosts databases for ESC WWW-enabled Internet applications on a 7 x 24 basis. Applications include Unemployment Insurance claims, Unemployment Insurance Wage Records filing and tax, and the Job Connector application for employment services to individuals and businesses. ESC supports high availability applications and databases, either by on-site staffing or by pager duty at all times. ESC has two permanent employee positions to support the UNIX platform. This number of staff is insufficient to provide critical applications support on a 7 day x 24 hour basis. Critical ESC systems including Telephone Initial Claims, Telephone Continued Claims, Remote Tax Filing, and Job Connector use Oracle production databases that run on UNIX Solaris Servers.
The selected candidate will be working with and advising senior technical and management staff of ESC and will collaborate with ESC’s UNIX Systems Administration Team and Database Management Team. Significant responsibilities include troubleshooting and problem definition in response to monitoring alerts and service interruptions.
Critical system hosts that will be supported include:
• Oracle 10g and 11g databases on Solaris version 10,
• Integrating Solaris and SuSE Linux servers with EMC SAN storage via EMC PowerPath,
• Special purpose applications (e.g., SAS Enterprise Server, On Point Technology Aware, O*Net AutoCoder) on Solaris and SuSE Linux,
• Network management applications including Cisco NetRegistrar, CWSI, and DNS.
• Implementation of LTO3 tape backups using Symantec Net Backup.
Required:
• Minimum of five (5) years experience supporting critical business applications on the Solaris operating system
• Minimum of two (2) years experience supporting Oracle’s database management system (versions 10g and 11g) with ASM
• Minimum of two (2) years experience supporting Linux
• Minimum of three (3) years experience performing UNIX systems and database backup administration
• Demonstrated familiarity with EMC SAN including fibre channel device configuration and Power Path management.
• Proficient consulting skills
Preferred:
• Linux support include with SuSE Linux Enterprise Server experience
• Knowledge and experience with Symantec Net Backup
