MS SQL Server Administrator with migration and project management experience
Location: Blythewood SC
Duration: 1 month
Positions: 1
The successful candidate must have:
• Five (5) or more years of pertinent, applied experience with
managing and maintaining SQL Server 2003.
• Two (2) or more years of pertinent, applied experience with managing
and maintaining SQL Server 2008.
• Pertinent, applied experience with migrating SQL Server 2003 to new
server hardware.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent project management skills.
The following database administration services need to be performed on approximately fifteen (15) Microsoft SQL Server databases:
• Review the status of the SQL Server service pack/hot fix upgrades.
• Review the existing Microsoft SQL Server backup jobs to ensure that
they are completing successfully.
• Review the existing Microsoft SQL Server backup jobs to ensure that
they are configured consistently and according to industry-recommended best practices.
• Review the existing log files to ensure they are properly sized and
are regularly being truncated.
• Review the existing scheduled events to ensure they are
functioning.
• Advise of any other maintenance practices that need to be
considered.
• Review the SQL Servers for optimization opportunities.
• Review the SQL Servers for design issues.
• Review the SQL Servers for any inconsistencies with the other SQL
Servers.
• Present findings (with task recommendations and task priorities) in
writing to management and technical staff.
• Adjust, correct, and/or update any issues identified in the previous
review steps that have been approved by management.
• After modifications are made, document the resulting SQL Server
configurations.
The following database administration services need to be performed on two (2) Microsoft SQL Server databases:
• Develop a plan to migrate the databases to new server hardware.
• Perform the actual database migration to the new server hardware.
